However, after filing a FIR he removed the red beacon. At the same time, Barkati refused to leave the Imam post of Tipu Sultan Masjid. He said that no one had the right to remove him from his Imam post.

He had argued for not removing the red beacon from his vehicle saying that he was a religious leader and had been using the red beacon for many decades. He does not follow the laws of the Center and questioned that who had the right to order him? He also mentioned that in Bengal only state government orders are effective and he would continue using the red beacon and would not remove it from his vehicle.

On the very next day, he said that he will not remove the red beacon on the orders of PM Modi. Following his statement, the state’s Library Minister and Maulvi Siddiqullah Choudhary had raised a protest outside the mosque on 13th May against Barkati. Police complaints were also filed against Barkati. After which police went to Barkati’s house and removed the red beacon.

After the red beacon was removed, his attitude softened and said that as a royal imam he would follow the law. It is noteworthy that the central government has abolished the system od red and blue beacons to eliminate the VIP culture and no one has been given any exemption following this.
